NASA plans to launch its first probe to Jupiter in 2022.
The agency’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory said Tuesday it plans to place a satellite in orbit around Jupiter in late 2022 or early 2023.
The probe, called JUPITER-J, will be a spacecraft about the size of a football field.
It will fly on a specially designed rocket with a diameter of about 2,500 feet (900 meters).
NASA has said the probe will be used to learn about the planet and other nearby planets.
